Lasting longer is not a problem, as I don't use as much as I should. I wanted better grip and thought giving up some miles for better grip was worth it. The bike handles completely different with the 014's. Quicker steering, anbody else find this or is it just me. The 014's are the recommended tyre though! :bike

I've thought about trying BT-014s as my next tyres, along with Pirelli and Metzeler. I test tode a GSX-R1000 K5 and the Bridgestones did feel good. Anything has got to be better than the stock Dunlops Yamaha chose to use on the 2004 R1.

I couldn't remember the type so checked this morning and they're Dunlop Sportmax D218.

The reason I kept them is because the dealer fitted a new rear FOC when I got the bike and I didn't want to pay anymore out at the time. The rear still has a lot of life in it but I think I'll change them this year and treat myself to some soft tyres to see how much difference this makes with the R1's handling. I don't mind going soft because I don't use my bike daily.

Have you ever had 020's? I had 020's on my Thundercat and on the Ace, then I got a flat on the front at 80mph and asked the Honda dealer to put 014 on as it is the recommended tyre for the Ace(I wanted more side grip). Then when I came back from Oulton Park and I needed a new rear, sooooo I put a 014 on the rear. I feel the front is very quick, it feels like the front is going to low side. I can't wait til the summer and get a good run and see if the tyre is good or if I still feel scared by the front feel.
I have also heard the Dunlops are shìt. Which surprise's me, if 95% of BSB bikes use Dunlop, then you would think they would be the best tyre for British roads. Bridgestone don't even have a tyre in BSB.

That's it, I have been out and the bike is fine now. Just need to get used to the 014's turning quicker.

Loony alert.

Notes to self
1, Don't try to follow the loonies
2, Must try harder

trying to dodge wing mirrors

i have now covered 5300 miles been averaging 1000 miles out of a nearly new scrubed bto12ss
after three of those i have now fitted a pirrelli supercorsa pro and that sticks like a sticky thing to a sticky thing :D :D :D

notes to self must try and preserve tyres >:D >:D

I was watching WSB at the weekend and I was interested in what they said was the difference between a Moto GP bike and WSb bike. The tyres feel like they are going to let go but you have to go with it and they will be ok. That is Biaggi's problem getting used to the different feel of the front tyre. Well that must mean my name is Biaggi!!! The difference between the Bridgestone 020's and the 014's is the same as what Hodgeson said about Biaggi. I now like the 014's but it did take a bit of getting used to, if I changed back to the new 021's I bet it would feel like a bit of concrete on the front of my Ace.

Come on Toseland..................... :director

I'm torn between Bridgestone BT-014, Metzeler Sportec M3, Michelin Pilot Power, or Pirelli Diablo Corsa III for my 2004 R1 but I'm sure any one of them has got to be an improvement on the Dunlop D218 OEM tyres.

I have now got used to the 014's but I have a mate who bought Pilot Power for his Suzuki 1200 Bandit and says they are superb. He has been riding for 20 years, so it must be true. If I was buying tyres today I would buy Pilot Power.

I read an interesting review in MCN last week.

Apparently the OE BT014's are a different kettle of fish to the ones that you can buy from tyres 'R' us.

Its all down to a letter after BT014 bit on the tyre its self.
