Datatool INFORAD (Anti-Speed camera device)
« on: February 21, 2006, 12:08:16 PM »
Hi, I've got to post this link for the inforad:

http://www.datatool.co.uk/consumer/products/products/index.php?product=inforad

Got mine last week from .........Yes i know eBay! (I do have a life out side of eBay, really!) They cost £99 reccommended retail, got mine for £75, you get a years subscription free updates, then I'm not sure but i think its £25 yearly, or if you want you can pay £49 within 30 days of registering the unit for lifetime updates! (for the sake of your licence its a bargain)

It consists of an LED that sits on one of those flexible stalks, place it somewhere next to your speedo etc. ( where you can see it!)
it flashes green when its aquiring a fix, then steady green. When you go into a speed restricted zone ie camera it will go red and if your above the limit for that camera it will flash red.   All settings can be done via your pc, things like how much notice you want, how bright you want your led etc.  One of the good points about this is the warning is given by time as opposed to distance, so for example it will give you 20 seconds warning as opposed to warn you within 500m obviously comes into play when your speed is closing in on prison time( which it obviously never would be :LOL)  I tested it on a local stretch of the A303 and was suitably impressed.

You will need to hard wire the unit into your electrics and the more you update it obviously the more informed you will be.  The system is updated via what i can only describe as a blanking plug, this holds all the data, its this that you plug into your pc via usb and then it plugs into the base unit thats on the bike.

Lastly theres the GPS reciever, about the size of the old 50p piece it needs to be in direct line of site of the sky as much as possible i.e Not under your single seat cowl etc, mine is on the yoke.

I will get some photos on here asap.

Any questions, please give me a shout

Hi mate,

I have been considering one of these for a while, only have 6 points as first year of full license.

I cudn't see it anywhere but does it just pick up secure cameras or does it pick up all cameras?

I mean as in a police control vehicles which moves around u know the transits with cameras in the back.
On my commute i know where the stationary cameras are but occassionily theres a van.
I know the road angel the car version picks up all cameras, obviously is more exspensive.

Thanks.

It hasnt got a radar detector in it so it cant tell if plod is sat behind you on the road etc, but it does tell you about those joe civvies sat in their money making vans with the cameras.  You must update it mind, i do mine in the morning just before i go to work, takes about 30 seconds and thats me covered.
Apparrently all police forces must declare where they are placing traffic safety sites on roads months before they do it, since the FOI act this info is now available to us all, thats how the GPS units get their updates, keeping our licences clean and obviously our roads safe!? :-\

Ok here goes here are the photos.............possibly!

This one is the data unit that you connect to your pc to update, then back to the unit to use.  One thing i forgot to mention is that it also stores the journey details, once you get back they can be uploaded back to your pc where you get a top speed, average speed, distance travelled and time stopped etc. Which is nice for seeing that elusive top end, mind you prepare to be dissapointed with it! My speedo went off the scale, this brought me back down to earth with a max of 159 :'( dont know what i expected/hoped just thought it would be 160 something, oh and of course i did that on a private road :D

This is the base unit complete with the data unit under my seat, as you can see it doesnt take up much room at all.

You can see the LED above my speedo here and below it on the yoke is the GPS reciever.

Heres the LED from the side, showing sort of, the flexible neck!?

And here is the LED showing, at night it automatically darkens as to not blind you. P.S. Check out my guicci reverse speedo dials!  Yes they were a sod to fit and yes i did almost smash my entire speedo unit into lots of biddy pieces in fustration! but hey thats the fun of modding eh?

Well there goes, thats a bloody long winded way of doing things,  any questions give me a shout.

Short answer "NO"

Its not a radar detector, but remember even if you did have a detector, do you really think it would do you any good if plod is around that corner?
