Buying new set of tires on old school Fireblade
« on: October 10, 2008, 08:45:44 PM »
Hi everyone,

I need a new set of tires on my 1998 900rr. I had made up my mind on the Pilot powers...however when I found out they werent making them in my retarded front tire size 130/70 zr16 Ive obviously had to start my research all over. Im now hesitating between the Metzeler M3's or the Pirelli diablo SS. Any opinion would be greatly appreciated.

i suppose it boils down to how you ride your bike.

if your doing lots of motorway miles you'd be better going for a sports touring type tyre.

if your caning it round the local back roads go for something with a softer compound.

loads of decent tyres to be had for the early blade with the 16" front.  :D

I guess I thought they where both sport touring...Im tending towards the M3 as it seems to be somewhat of a softer compund from what I read.

if that's claudev's bike in his avatar then the vfr wheel won't fit it.  8)

Yeah thats my bike...I did think about changing the wheel to a 17inch but then dismissed the idea as Im a newb and have very little knowledge on the subject...Although if thats what most people recommend Ill definitely look into it. If the VFR wheel doesnt fit, any idea as to what a good, inexpensive solution could be?

Actually you can get any wheel to fit you just need to make sure the bearings, spacers and discs line up with what is already fitted.
The VFR wheel is a straight swap for earlier blades and I am sure the firestorm will fit some. You just need to find out specs and match them :D
