newbie with a question
« on: March 22, 2010, 07:53:55 PM »
Hi guys, new to the site and after an expert opinion so any help at all is greatly appreciated.

Recently noticed that there is a kind of shhhing sound comming from the front brakes, disks seem fine with plenty of life and pads also seem fine (havnt taken them out but they seem like theres not too much wear compared to a new set. I bleeded the brakes recently but wondering if somehow air in the system would cause this?

Cheers in advance

Ok I might be totaly wrong here and someone will probably correct me.

I think its probably because you have sintered pads.

I beleve its the noise caused by the metal in the pads "rubbing" against the metal on the brake disks

The grass on the other side may be greener but you still have to mow it.

OK.  Serious head on  ;)

Are the discs full floating?  Check that they're not gummed up with shat and can still float like they should.

Cheers guys, disks are floating properly i think but im gonna give them a proper clean anyway. What is the recommended lip wear, if any around the outside of the disk?

What is the recommended lip wear, if any around the outside of the disk?

its normally measured by the thickness of the disc.
mine are 5mm so any lip showing on either side would have me looking for new ones.
