Yamaha TDM 850 / 850 with funny crank / 900
« on: March 18, 2010, 12:04:39 PM »
What they like to ride and live with.

Is the 900 really that much better than the 850?

Use would be 140-ish mile commute in all weathers - I have another bike for fun in the twisties.

They look a little (!) heavy - what are they like on tyres, brakes, fuel etc?

Any common faults?

Currently using an XT660R and don't think it would be up to this kind of use without looking very sorry for itself in a short time (would do better than an XT600e though  :thebirdman paxo  :LOL).

Would be good to know what you're comparing it to aswell - "It's shìt/great and my first big bike" doesn't help as much as "Far better/worse than a KLR650/GS650 etc"

Thanks peeps.

So you should have bought an XT600 :005_stongue: Mine can cope with everything I can throw at it. I guess the 660 isn't built to the same standard.

Just get a BMW F650GS Dakar and be done with it :005_stongue:

A client of mine has had three TDM's although hes a ducati freak, he is like you Legz and hasnt passed his car test. He rides all weathers 60 miles a day to and from work in Hull. He rates them very very highly having very little trouble.
