Where I used to live in Eastbourne harbour the swans often used the grass verges as a run way. One did exactly that when I was riding along the road. Amazing to see right next to you but seriously scary at the same time.  :o
'Yes! Bastards! I hate them with their long tails and their stupid twitchy noses!'

When I first came to riding bikes in the 70's I was riding from where I was stationed in Norfolk to see a girlfriend in Nottingham and I got hit by a pheasant. I was lucky that I saw it coming and got my arm up to help deflect the blow but the bird smashed all my clocks and impaled itself on the handlebar grips and clutch lever. It made a right mess.

Hitting any bird can be nasty.  Me mate, Linz had a wood pigeon smash into his head at about 140 a couple of years back.  The thing just exploded off his head like a firework.  I thought he was definately off when it hit him, but he stayed on and we all ended up laughing about it, but at the time it was a tad scary.  Amusingly, my bike was covered in blood, guts and feathers, but another lad behind me got an airbox full of feathers, which cost him a bob or 2 to get sorted out.  :giggle
