NEED SOME HELP WITH MY APRILIA RS 125 CLUTCH!
« on: August 29, 2010, 10:03:19 AM »
hi all i am new to the site and would love to see if someone could help me,

i recently saved a aprilia rs 125
the bike needed a new gearbox so it got replaced.

after all the bike backtogether it starts fine and seems to be runnin fine

ok here's the  :banghead problem

when ive got the engine runnin i pull the clutch in and drop it into first, its like the clutch isnt there and it jolts in to gear and jus stalls everytime :icon_boohoo:

ive tried adjusting the clutch the cable end and at the actual clutch adjuster in the centre, and i cannot seem to find the right settin for it to work as it should! ive tried so long the bike ran out of petrol on me lol  :angryfire:

if anyone could help with the right way of adjustment, it would be much appreciated, this has been my only problem with the bike remaining at my knowledge and would love to get back on 2 wheels.

Did you replace the clutch plates with the new gearbox? If so, did you soak them in oil overnight before installing them?

Is the clutch basket in good condition?

hi no the clutch wasnt replaced , i didnt think it needed to be it was in full workin order before the gearbox died on me.

and in replacement i inspected the clutch and it seemed to be in good condition although whilst the project was in place the clutch had been out of the bike for about a week with no oil or lubrication could this maybe be the matter, but the bike has now been together for at least a week and surely it would have been soaked in enough oil by now and still on adjustment the problem is there.

and i am using the correct gear box oil??? please help thanks

it sounds like the plates are simply stuck. tie the lever back to the bars over night then rock it back and forwards with the lever pulled in and 1st gear selected, do this quite ruthless and obviously with the ignition off  :LOL

how shall i have it adjusted?? cos now ive played with the adjustment i dno where it is meant to be, if the plates are stuck does tht mean no matter how i have adjusted the clutch will act as engaged

Shut it Jase :LOL

Merky: I would think as long as there's enough tension in the clutch cable to take the pressure off the clutch plate that will be fine
