Racers/track day'rs only.....
« on: November 24, 2010, 10:41:48 AM »
Through all your experience, what guides you to CHOOSE the right line ? instinct or do you have it set out ? repetition of a track or ?

Im asking to see if your a late breaker, early turner, high risker, etc.

Thanks in advance,

Corey

Following a slightly quicker rider always seems to help (even if their chosen line doesn't suit it's all experience).

I firmly believe there is no perfect line or perfect way to ride.

Just look at any race with close racing - fractions of a tenth of seconds difference in laptimes yet their styles and/or lines couldn't be more different.

Check out Hayden - v - Rossi for an example.

So,which are you?

And doesn't your style change depending on weather, track conditions, things happening around in the heat of battle etc?

Obviously it will change due to conditions, im looking for people's race styles... why they go wide then turn, why they go late and power through, etc.

I know its hard to explain but when do you feel you need to commit ? 10m,20m, 50m ? what speeds do you think right i need to go wide an need to go late.... if you get me ?

Up to a certain point it's down to experience isn't it?

You only turn in early a few times until you realise you're running out of road on the exit.

Not sure what you're getting at.

It all depends on the track, the corner, the amount of grip etc etc.

Ideally you'd sit up,grab some brake whilst you have more front tyre traction then tip back in again.

Or,you could lean off the bike further and lower tightening your turning without putting more strain on tyres already struggling for grip.

Or you could sit up,brake and come to a stand if there's room.

Or you could increase power causing a rear wheel spin tightening the turning while be careful not to take too much weight off the front (If you're up to WSB level).

Or crash and put it down to experience...

What would you do?

you make so many "open" statements and questions that its impossible to answer, but as a general rule i remember a little gem of info i was given by one of the race lads (or whoever cause i feckin cant remember who..........)

"if your ever running out of road (talent) then force yourself to look where you need to go and 99% of the time you will make it"

and it works, stopped me throwing it in the gravel at Redgate, Donnington after some plum passed me outbraking himself and i was nearly led by the hand into having his accident!!
just here for the FUN........
