I think you will  nothing you've driven/ridden before is anything like the power to weight ratio you get on a modern sports bike, I rode some pretty quick bikes when in my teens (the quickest being a 350lc) but moved on to cars, had some very quick cars with power improvements which had power to weight ratios well over 200bhp/ton but when I got on my zx6r (a 1997 model) for the first time in 2005 it scared the shìt outta me, 0-60 a little over 3 seconds and up to a 100 in around 6, holding on for my life, took 6 months and a couple of trackdays to totally appreciate how to ride it.
You have a sensible attitude and maturity in your favor, but some naivety counting against, take it easy and enjoy it

I appreciate that the bike will be comfortably faster than any car I've had/driven. I guess the point I was trying to make is that I'm not going from one extreme to the other eg smallish and slow car to mega fast superbike.

I also know that in some respects I will be/am naive but it's natural since I've never had a motorbike before.

don't get me wrong, i'm not slating you, you seem to have the right attitude
But you have supercar performance on something not much bigger than a bicycle, it is so very different to anything you have expierienced before, these bikes accelerate faster than the latest lamborghini's so in reality you are going from one extreme to another

plus driving cars round corners quickly is fairly easy on the road!!! not so with a bike.

my latest car is the quickest I have had, and does feel quick, yet its still not even twice as slow as my new bike!!!! can't wait   :giggle

ok guys.....I've gone and done it.

I've bought a 125.

I've been thinking about it a lot and came to the conclusion that buying a decent 125 for practice was a better option for me. It means I can ride for a while and if I decide that it's not for me, then I haven't spent several hundred pounds on lessons, only to find I don't want to continue riding.
I realise bikes are way faster than cars so starting at the bottom is more sensible too......my girlfriend prefers this too!!!

Just bought a CBF 125 from a Glasgow dealer and will be picking it up sometime later in the week.

I reckon I'll save around £5 per day in fuel compared to my car, so the saved fuel will pretty much pay for the bike!!!

Cheers for all the advice!!!
