some decent brake pads
« on: December 19, 2011, 03:01:36 PM »
i have only ever used OEM pads and i think they do the job fine. track and road.
however, im going to try something different this time but i dont want anything worse than OEM ones.
there is a guy that lives directly opposite me who supplies EBC with brake disc parts and said he could get me some pads when i need them. not knowing much about EBC, which ones would be worth a shot? or is there anything else worth trying? i dont mind splashing out for the right stuff.

no cold winter use, mainly road but the occasional track................. if you know what i mean  :wistle

cheers, will give Alyn a shot

EBC HH aren't bad it's just there's better out there

I asked for OE on the service for the Ducati but they fitted EBC's - transformed one of the best braking systems into a squealing, brake fading,average-at-best POS.

I got Bendix off Alyn following recommendation from leggy one and I will never use anything other than Bendix now on the track bike

another vote for bendix here, been using them for years now and love em
when i was a kid i used to pray to god to bring me a bike.....then i realised he didn't work that way...so i stole one and then prayed for forgiveness.

don't bother with EBC HH's mate, they feel strong when you first put them in but 20 miles or so of spirited riding and they stop biting. scared the shite outa me when i put em on the zzr. they aint cheap either considering that pads half the price do a better job.

i was always  wary of EBC stuff and you lot have confirmed it. cheers

i have some bendix in the pipeline with Alyn, just going to wait for this festive thing to clear up and i will order them.

next question.   brake fluid.
i tried DOT5.1 when i was kart racing and it made a huge difference, however i have heard it rots seals  :-\  is that an old wives tale?

jeez.. new hoses, pads and fluid (+poss titax shortie levers) the bike will think its his/her birthday..... oh wait, it is on Jan 1st  :LOL

I have never used EBC pads, I always use Carbon Lorraine and am happy with the feel and braking capabilities. Although I only use the bike for medium to fast road stuff.

The OEM ones on the Hayabusa were dogshit  :nono: Made out of case-hardened cheese. !!

brake fluid "dot" ratings can get confusing even before the usual i/net bullshoite/shoitters have started.............

dot5 is a silicone fluid that DOES cause problems in certain systems and is primarily designed/used for military and certain Classic applications because of its almost indefinate life HOWEVER its inability to absorb moisture (which gives it its life) amd comparitively low temp ability make it a NO NO for performance applications..............

a high quality dot4/dot5.1 can give performance benefits depending on which you choose (like all things they are not all equal) and the type of use/abuse its going to be subjected to
just here for the FUN........

cheers for clearing that up. it was confusing to say the least  :-\

i have no probs with the brakes at the moment but the fluid in there looks like getting contaminated (darker than normal) but it is 5 years old next month  :giggle

im going to give 5.1 a shot, i know its a bit more expensive but i have been impressed with it in the past, i was just unsure if the components were suitable.

i will order the bendix pads and fluid (if you stock it) right after this festive break
