A guy I used to work for at a bike breakers used to drag race. He had some lowered oil cooled nos`d thing that could get just under 8secs I seem to recall.

Never understood the appeal myself. Its more like a tuning/engineering competition than a race, but hey ho to each his own  :wistle

What time did you get?

I had an Renault 5 GT Turbo in 1991 that did a similar figure to that at Elvington  (12.9 sec and 115mph max speed)

Its very technical I agree, thats where the skill comes in, in the setting up.
Thats just from my experience helping him out for a race weekend. But once its all done, you hold on, lean forward, full throttle, clutch in. drop it when the light goes green, hold on, and hit the shifter when the light comes on...
if you want to go quicker you set things up differently or spend more money or both no?
Like I said dont see the appeal. Not slating it, just not my bag, doesnt interest me

I have been to Santa Pod a number of times, both for main event stuff and RWYB.

I was there for a RWYB meet the other year, and some lad was there on a GPz500S, and you could tell it was his first time, he looked all nervous on the line and when the lights went green...........................................................

He looped it

crack on, if you think its that easy.............

Hey I`m just going by what my old boss said, and he was doing it, so why should I think otherwise? His words were "theres nothing to it" and then something along the lines of what I wrote above.
I helped him out setting up his bike.
It had an ignition retarder to limit the rpm to a set amount until the clutch was released, a type of slipper clutch to engage the clutch gradually at the desired speed to allow you to just drop it, a shift light to tell you when to change up, and a button linked to a QuickShitter to do the change. It had 916 forks and yokes strapped down with a ratchet, custom made frame and swing arm, gsxr 1100 oil cooled engine, gas flowed, bored to a 1500 with progressive nitrous injection and lumpy cams. It was so long and low it used the exhaust trumpet as a sidestand.

Is something I`v said inaccurate? If someone says something you disagree with, you could explain why you disagree, or I guess you could just tell them to "crack on" that way everyone's a winner   :clap

Like I said I`m not putting it down, it just doesnt appeal to me. Sorry if that bothers anyone.
Actually no I`m not its my opinion  :wistle

PS, launching a standard street bike takes alot more skill (his words again).

All things can be simplified, circuit racing is all just going round in circles until you get dizzy and fall off!!!  :giggle

it is true that there is more technican input into a dragbike than most other forms of 2wheeled racing but then again you could also argue that the "traction control" man is more important in Supersport, BSB, MotoGP, etc......

BTW there is only 0.7-0.8 secs between shifts on a SSB turbo busa for the first 3 shifts in which time you have a lot more to do than 'just hold on' as the thing needs a lot of control in the those partial second gaps or you may well find yourself in the barrier....

Lol well you can blame him for over simplifying it then!  :LOL its all I have to go on.

I respect the guys that do it, but its not for me. I guess when something interests you you follow it and learn more about it.
I would take my bike to a run what you brung though for a laugh  :wistle

That's a pretty respectable 1/4ml time for a RWYB car Kerm .
Must have had a bit done to it. I've seen 300bhp cosworths not being able to do 12s.

I did a 11.6s @116mph on my GPZ750/900  years ago and that was reasonable for an old nail

Superbikers - with great power comes great stupidity
Supermotoerers - with less power comes irresponsibility

Must have had a bit done to it.

Variable boost valve head stage tuned and high lift cam and a different intercooler with around 185bhp (at the wheels) in a car that weighed 550kg  :thumbsup:it was awsome but destroyed gear boxes  :005_ssad:
