new boots and helmet
« on: January 21, 2012, 04:35:37 PM »
Need to buy some new boots to replace my ageing sidi vertabrate.
Been looking at the tcx race and arlen ness race, Anyone had experiance of these, did fancy some gaerne but can't seem to locate any dealers in south wales that stock them. Also tryed one of the new shark race pro r helmets fit nice but what are they like in a year or twos time. does the padding lose its shape how easy is it to get black visors etc.

Got a pair of TCX from the days when they were called Oxtar - bloody brilliant boot - mine are a waterproof pair that have never let me down in 20,000 + miles - recommended make. {Not the race boot but I have a touring / sporty boot}. So I can recommend the make but not the boot.

I had a Shark RSR2 for a month or two - high sided in Portimao came down hard - broke a leg and smashed my head on the Tarmac - not even an headache good strong helmet. I can not say how they would be in a year or two but good in a high side plus they score really well with the SHARP Test.

When I replace my lid that is the one I will buy!

Hope I have been of help?

I have had 2 Shark RSR helmets, the RSR1 was the lightest and quietest helmet that I have ever owned, I used it for up to 8 hours a day for a fortnight whilst rattling around the coast, and never had a problem with it.

The RSR2 that I have now is heavier than its predecessor, and not quite as quiet, but still a very good lid.

Ideal for colder days due to the 3mm thick visor.

Dark visors are readily available on the internet, and the linings are all machine washable.

I use my Shark helmets as a second/winter lid, keeping the Arai for nice days

the L on a shark is not as big as some of the other makes. the 3 L sharks i had were a perfect fit and i am medium in arai. you really have to try them on.
thats a nice helmet lee has there :)
