Some figures for Bike Sales.

New registrations, year to Dec 2011

Scooters: 32,326 +11.7%
Adventure Sport: 10,570 +13.6%
Sport Tourers: 5,083 -32.4%
Supersport: 12,851 -9.9%
Total mopeds, motorcycles (excl. scooters): 61,523 -8.1%

Source: Motorcycle Industry Association

What do these figures tell us?

1Overall sales are down.

2Sports Bikes are in decline [this may be why some Manufactures have pulled the plug on MOTO GP i.e Kawasaki and Suzuki?]

3 Adventure Sports is a growing market.

4 Scooters are popular because they are a communting alternative to cars - they are cheap, easy to park and Motorcycle licence requirements are complex but all that's required to get on a moped (up to 50cc) or a scooter/motorcycle of up to 125cc is the successful completion of a one-day course called CBT.

5 Therefore Motorcycle Licence requirements are complex and that may well be a cause of people being put of bikes?
