Budget

Ho,ho,ho.

Top rate tax cut from 50p to 45p - if you earn over £150,000, congratulations.

Freeze on tax relief for pensioners - if you're old you'll get less.

We're all in this together...

I suppose that's one way of looking at it...

However, there could be a few million pensioners earning 1/20th of the threshold that might not share your enthuiasm for the tax cut.

The budget is always a balancing act and some years it favours group and others group y.

Fiscal policy dictates you cant keep all the people happy all the time.

I thought Milliband played a blinder when he asked the Tory front bench, 'how much more they would be getting ?'

As for the rise in basic tax, whoopee, an extra £5 per week.

Coalition, I hang my head in shame, for voting liberal, never again.............bunch of turncoat tossers.

Possibly not, but there's a small word this bunch of morally bankrupt cretins seem to be forgetting:

Fairness.

The 'balancing act' should concern one group of middle/top earners gaining one year and losing the next.

It should NOT be those with the smallest income being hit hard whilst those earning a sizeable chunk pay even less.

Can you answer me a question?

Do you thinks it's fair.

A simple hands up for yes or a nod of the head will do  ;)

If it's any consolation I never thought i'd see the day when intelligent MP's would do what the Libs have done.

They should enjoy what little power they now have - I fear their little Faustian Pact will make them unelectable for quite a while.

Do't leave us alone with the shites we need you to stand with us Bill.

I am, I hope, making a point.
That a YES vote and independence from the UK should mean just that.
I hope a YES vote will not mean that in reality it is a vote againts the Tories and the Libs.
I hope you Scots vote NO.

Of course they still blame Labour Bill, the problem materialised under Labor rule so they are accountable. If the Tories had been in power, you (and Labour ) would definitely be blaming them for this disastrous situation we find ourselves in at the moment.

Who would you replace them with ? Don't say Labour ffs  :nono:.

A blinkered view of the budget as I expected.

Smallest income hit hard

How do you figure that out? They are actually raising the tax threshold to take the lowest paid out of tax altogether , and will continue to raise the threshold to £10000.
Is that not a good thing ?

The lowering of the upper tax rate from 50 to 45p ?
Personally I don't understand it but apparently it can be beneficial to lower rates for getting more revenue in. It seems when Labour raised the rate to 83p in the 70s it in fact lowered the revenue coming from the rich and when it was lowered back down revenue increased.
But 5p difference I don't think will make adifference as to wether someone is willing to pay their share, or not.
But the budget was actually targetting other ways to get revenue from the rich other than the 5p rate cut, the levy on mansions being one, a good idea imo.
as for the budget on the whole, neither nowt nor summat tbh, and it can't really be anything more than a juggling of figures (unless the coalition can magic up around  £500billion that Labour left us in debt with).
Putting money into medical research ,aircraft design research, and businesses in Scotland (Bill) seems a good idea to me , plus superfast broadband a good thing for 10 major cities.
Nothing in the budget to get annoyed about though, unless you smoke (Legz)  :wistle.

It would be good to get rid of them shites forever though would'nt it

But can they have some of your fresh water first Bill  :giggle

Sorry to disappoint.

Smallest income hit hard

How do you figure that out?

It's quite simple when I don't have to justify voting this shower of shite in.  ;)

Rather than quoting all your right-wing waffle i'll spell it out in simple terms.

Lowest earners are pensioners.

Tax relief is being phased out for this group.

They lose.

Top rate tax is being cut for those earning £150,000.

They win.

Only a fucked-up society can claim this to be a fair situation.

Whinging about 70's Labour policy or the fact a Chancellor in his 3rd budget still harps on about a worldwide recession on Labours watch doesn't change anything i'm afraid.

"Taking the lowest paid out of tax"?

And so they fooking should be!

If all you earn in a year is £9200 the least you deserve is a tax break.

By the way, this is a little bone thrown to the Lib lapdogs - if you think otherwise then I fear you're deluding yourself old chap

Milliband said it best:

"Same
Old
Tories".

I reckon he has a point.

Your opinion might differ.

I'm ok with that  :down

No pensioners aren't, technically they aren't  low earners,  rather low income.
Pensioners tax relief is being put in line with the working class, £9200 for next year, so any pensioner getting income greater than that figure will have their income taxed , the same as low paid workers, so basically low income workers are the lowest earners.
Fair ?
I don't thinks so.
What message is Osbourne sending to people who do the right thing and save a little for retirement to top up their state pension ? Not a positive one imo, especially as any savings pensioners have are making nothing with the current interest rates.
Good for the borrowers, not the savers,

now that is unfair  ::)
