No doubt is will be spun into some sort of 'getting women back into work' bollox.

no offence but if anyone is earning £40-50-60K+ what the feck do they need a few quid child benefit for???

At first glance your argument makes sense.

The problem comes in where you draw the line.

£30K?

So someone on £30,001 loses out while someone earning a quid less gains.

I'm glad I don't have to make the decisions and can just sit and deride/pick apart/slag off when the policy is introdeced. ;)

It's not a few quid, it's £185 cash a month when you have 3 kids. I have had that benefit for 10 years, morgage & lifestyle is based around the fact I will get £185 a month towards the cost of having a larger family. Now it stops, I have to find it else where.

Of course they still blame Labour Bill, the problem materialised under Labor rule so they are accountable. If the Tories had been in power, you (and Labour ) would definitely be blaming them for this disastrous situation we find ourselves in at the moment.

Who would you replace them with ? Don't say Labour ffs  :nono:.

A blinkered view of the budget as I expected.

Smallest income hit hard

How do you figure that out? They are actually raising the tax threshold to take the lowest paid out of tax altogether , and will continue to raise the threshold to £10000.
Is that not a good thing ?

The lowering of the upper tax rate from 50 to 45p ?
Personally I don't understand it but apparently it can be beneficial to lower rates for getting more revenue in. It seems when Labour raised the rate to 83p in the 70s it in fact lowered the revenue coming from the rich and when it was lowered back down revenue increased.
But 5p difference I don't think will make adifference as to wether someone is willing to pay their share, or not.
But the budget was actually targetting other ways to get revenue from the rich other than the 5p rate cut, the levy on mansions being one, a good idea imo.
as for the budget on the whole, neither nowt nor summat tbh, and it can't really be anything more than a juggling of figures (unless the coalition can magic up around  £500billion that Labour left us in debt with).
Putting money into medical research ,aircraft design research, and businesses in Scotland (Bill) seems a good idea to me , plus superfast broadband a good thing for 10 major cities.
Nothing in the budget to get annoyed about though, unless you smoke (Legz)  :wistle.

But can they have some of your fresh water first Bill  :giggle

and a little oil

The lower earners have been hit the hardest, both myself and smidsy had always worked, two years ago his illness got that bad that he had to give up work on medical reasons and is now disabled having to give up his bikes and everything. I still work 20 hours a week as the rest of the time i spend looking after him the house kids etc. We have just lost our ta credits as i work 4 hours a week to little to be eligible, if i work the etra 4 hours a week i will be liable to pay more of our rent and the council tax out of my small monthly wage. Then on top of that at the end of april smidsys sick money stops and is being replaced with an incomerelated one which we believe is going to be around 20 quid a week, so we arent any better off under the new tax rates as i dont earn enough to pay tax but then we are going to be approx 90 quid a week down on our money but still have the same amount of outgoings to pay out on. So how can you say that the only thing to moan about in the budget was the cost of fags going up if you are a smoker.  Some people really need to get a clue, believe it or not 30,000 or 40,000 grand a year is not a low wage even when we both worked full time we were on nowhere near that amount and now we are expected to live on 6,500 a year and pay everything we need to pay without any help from the system we have paid into for years. This is the reality of their changes.

I appreciate what you are writing pillion no more, but I'm not sure which specific policy brought out in the budget a week or two ago, has so significantly affected your income ?  There was mention of disability incomes being affected. Is that the reason , and if so, what exactly are the changes to your income ?
£6500 is certainly a  low income to survive on, even taking into account rent and council tax rebates etc.
Sorry to hear about your current problems, I was out of work for quite a few months due to stroke and it's not an enviable position to be in. I did get around £90 p.w. incapacity benefit after 6 months and my partner also got a extra income due to her being on low wages.
This was a couple of years ago so things may have changed though.
As for the fags comment, that was just a private dig at Legz as he smokes , but for sure I didn't realise any household was going to be significantly affected

they have changed the tax credits so you have to work at least 24 hrs a week to qualify or if one of you is disabled then you have to get the highest rate of care allowanve in your dla smidsy gets the highest rate of mobility allowance but only middle rate of carers allowance as he can feed himself so as i only work 20 hrs a week we lose nearly £40 a week tax credits but if i up my hours to 24 then we would have to pay out an extra 440 quid a month on rent and council tax, also the employment and support allownace he currently gets the gov has now stopped from the end of this month and they have replaced it with one that goes on what your income is and although i only earn 124 quid a week this will take his money down from 87 a week to 20 quid a week  and thats what they didnt tell people.  although i must admit that unless you are in this situation you wouldnt really know the effects that their changes have made to those on the lower incomes.

Certainly looks to be a serious dilemma you two are in  :005_ssad:.
It's as always, you never get the full truth from government policies, and whilst the original thread mentioned pensioners were the worst off, it would seem couples like you two are obviously not just slightly worse off, but a lot worse off.
That's certainly not what the government potrayed  ::).

They all talk s**te
