The thunderace, good bike as it is, is a step down the evolution ladder compared to the R1. In a straight line I don't think there will be much in it, the aces bigger fairing being negated by it's weight. But you could say the same about the FZR1000 and 1000RU, they aren't going to be that far off the pace either. Throw in a few corners and the R1 will walk away from them all. Best person to ask is LegzR1, he has had the ace plus three different R1 models. I had a go on his Ace, and have had two R1's myself (98 and 2000 models), and imo the R1 is the better bike no question

the 98 models are the best of all the r1s over the years not just cus i used to have 1 but they still stand out in a crowd even now ,especially in red n white (just get a sexy undertray fitted ) :D

Who resurrected this thread then? :rofl

Paul Mac has it covered I think  :D

The Thunderace is an under-rated bike in my opinion but it can't compete with an R1 of any age in a sporting sense.

Good engine, great brakes, stable but heavy handling and still a bit of a tool in the right hands (not mine ! ).

I think owners of 04/05/06 R1's should blagg a ride on a 98 R1 - you'll appreciate stable handling but you'll question what happened to the mid range on the later bikes  :P :D
