Biking Talk / high oil level after standing
« on: October 27, 2012, 04:11:46 PM »
Today I decided to start my r1. its been on paddock stands and optimate since september 09.
Started on the button but run very rough for 10 minutes (to be accpected) run it until fan in and out but when it was running I noticed that the olil was still showing in the site glass. (towards the botton mark) When I switghed her off the oil ran back into the site glass real quick and looked very thin, when it setaled the oil level is full of the site glass,
Now I thought I had turned of the petrol tap when I parked it up, but found out today I had'nt. There as been no petrol on the garage floor but Im now wondering if fuel could have leaked past float valve and run into cylinders, seeped past rings and into sump.

Also tryed one of the new shark race pro r helmets fit nice but what are they like in a year or twos time. does the padding lose its shape how easy is it to get black visors etc.

Trackdays / metzeler interacts
« on: September 19, 2011, 11:09:59 AM »
Been using the metzelar interacts this year and been running them at 28psi and 31psi hot as recommended. I have had a few slides with these on that never happened with the old ractecs, are they a stiffer carcass, should I be backing off rear preload or somthing?

Non biking talk / painting fairing
« on: May 03, 2010, 07:30:03 PM »
Ive spent the last month trying to repair and paint a trackday fairing i damaged last year.
When ever i spary paint it with aerosol can paint it either goes like crazing or shows the edge of the repair, Ive feathered the edges of the repair with 800 and 1200 grit wet and dry and feels smooth but as soon as paint goes on it outline shows up. Ive been using paint from Halfords and worked fine on the replacement fairing so dont think its the paint.
Any body shop guy can give a few pointers . Ta

Non biking talk / lights in a race fairing
« on: December 27, 2009, 04:18:08 PM »
Fed up with swapping fairings back and forth, so was looking to fit some lights int my race fairing Ive seen the fog light type in halfords  and had a look at the piaa 004xt lamps.
Has anyone done this ?. I'm going to do it to a k7 750 gixer was looking to prob go two lights one above the other and have one as dip one as main beam. Or is there a requirement for both.
I know about the mot with out lights bit but if your mot said tested with out lights and then you went out with just a single light at the front how would you fair with the law.

Non biking talk / stripping rev counter
« on: June 07, 2009, 12:57:40 PM »
I have had to replace the rev counter on my 99 r1 with second hand unit. Now the replacement clocks have lots more miles then what my bike has done so I need to :-
1, Strip out rev counter from good clocks and fit into original circuit board.
2, Find some one who can bought the miles of the replacemet clocks to the original miles.

Cant just swap LCD display because milage is stored in a chip.
The needle on the tacho doesn't want to slide of the spindle is the a nack to it .
Any advice

Non biking talk / rev counter on r1 stuck
« on: May 19, 2009, 03:43:31 PM »
My 99 r1 as a fault on the rev counter with ignition off the needle is at zero when ignition turned on needle goes to 4k rpm then drops to 3k rpm and back to 4krpm contiouslly if i start the engine the tacho needle will not go past 4k rpm. I have checked throttle pot and have 5k resistance at ends and 4.6k resistance when throttle open so don't think its a throttle pot fail. when i discnnect the fuel sensor the tacho gives the correct error read of 8k then zero back to 8k. Any one had similar. The bike as stood for a twelve month an been on battery charger last time I rode it the rev counter was a bit bounce at constant 8k rpm
