Senna died at Imola,

As did Roland Ratzenberger, same weekend. It doesn't have a good record.

Don't worry, the forum swear filter is just being used back to front, quick.shifter (without the .) gets replaced with QuickShitter

If you rotate the arm 180 degrees on the selector shaft (so that it's pointing up instead of down) then that will give you race pattern gear shift.

£33 off a £330 lid isn't good business acumen when they need to get rid of all their assets and recoup as much as possible  :angryfire:

Personally, I'd back the administrators' business acumen rather than yours, Simon  ;)  :LOL

I got it if I had that bike it would be Metzler Racetecs, not a Sports Tourer type tire  :rotflmao:

Looks like the RR version of Dunlop D207 or D208, so hardly sports touring ;)

How does that equate with light?

Shh, let's forget that one ;)

On your basis of thought, the global arms expense of £1.7trln would be a much better budget target (being 170 times larger in real terms) - afterall what to increasingly clever ways of killing each other benefit the human race?

That is so much common sense - £1.7trillion spent trying to kill people would be so much better spent trying to improve lives. Going back to one of your earlier comments, we are still killing neighbouring tribes because they give us lip (and metaphorically dragging women around by their hair), it's just that the tribes are much larger than they used to be.

As far as I see, this is simply an expensive (no matter how the figures of world GDP seem to slant the point  ;)) exercise is balancing an equation (granted,a rather compliated equation).

I don't think it is a money issue, it's a human issue in that not everyone is interested in helping people who are suffering. I have no figures, but I would guess that a large amount of the funding came from academic institutions and private benefactors; it is their prerogative to spend their money in any way they see fit (similar to Richie's point on our own individual indulgences).

In honesty I have no idea what this discovery will mean. From what little I've managed to read about it, it is as much the foundations of the theories that predicted it than being something in and of itself. It validates various theories and will promote new theories. Is this any more than knowledge for knowledge's sake? Who knows. Maybe it's a research dead end, maybe a hundred years from now, the world's population will depend on something that depends on this discovery.

If we're talking about pointless scientific funding, looking through some Ig Nobel studies is probably a better place than Higgs Boson research.

so why can't light escape a black hole or is 'bent' when it passes by a star ?

...before the Higgs Boson nothing had any mass...

Well, everything did have mass, we just didn't have an explanation for why things had mass.

I see a lot of discussion about, "so what is the relevance of Higgs boson?"

This is the study of pure science, knowledge for the sake of knowledge. It's similar to pure mathematics, the study of numbers simply to know more about numbers. Prime numbers are one the those features that are easy to understand what they are, but extremely difficult to explain their nature. They've been studied for several thousand years and there are still mysteries about them.

What is the point of this post, and what have they got to do with Higgs boson? Well, for centuries there was 'no point' studying prime numbers, because they had no real world application. Well, right up until the Internet. Prime numbers are behind every single e-commerce transaction that takes place, secures your online banking, all sorts of things that need protecting in an electronic world.

Einstein's special theory of relativity - what use is that? Well, it helps GPS function, for one thing. The point is we have no conception at this point in time of what significance the Higgs boson may have. Who knows, it may enable light speed travel.

How can anyone think that's a good idea? What a numpty. It's hard enough work on an offroad bike.

VAG are basically tryign to cover all bases and beat BMW at their own game...............

to be fair over the last few years i would think they are winning now owning Bentley, Porshe, VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Lamborghini, Bugatti, etc. (and i think Rolls Royce??)

Porsche own VAG.

While the throttle is open, put some pressure on the gear lever - it doesn't need too much, you're not trying to force the next gear in. When you want to change up, back the throttle off a touch and the next gear will slot in.

You don't need to fully close the throttle, the slightest movement is usually enough, it just needs enough to take the tension off the chain.

It is never Rossi fault.
But I beg to disagree with it appears the whole god damn World.

I stick by my guns - overated Rossi is not the be all and end all of Bike Racing.

Who said anything about fault? It was a statement of the circumstances surrounding that season that you brought up. Of course it was Rossi's fault, as was hurting his shoulder in a motocross incident, the point is he's never recovered to his prior peak.

You seem to brand anyone who disagrees with you as a Rossi fanboy, but you just appear to want to talk about how anti-Rossi you are to get a reaction. Personally, I think Rossi is never going to trouble the podium again and fully expected him to retire a season or two ago.

I don't think anyone can argue with Stoner's ability - the one I always recall is him winning at Donington by 11s while very ill. He and Lorenzo are the leading talents out in the field now.

No one apart from you said Rossi is the be-all and end-all; we just disagreed with your opinion that he is overrated and backed it up with evidence.

Pedrosa, now he's overrated.

Not that often you concede a point with such ease.   :giggle

I think that's what is know in the business as 'irony'

Overrated

Seems like a long time ago now since 2009 take a look at what has happened since.

Did not like Yamaha taking on Lorenzo so built a wall in the garage refused to share data etc - result Lorenzo becomes world champion.
Took the attitude that this team is not big enough for a Spanish guy and an Italian - guess what Yamaha took the line we will keep Lorenzo. Rossis leaves Yamaha under a dark cloud looking the fool.

Funny how life was good with team mates that never beat you but when one appeared we witnessed a darker side to Rossi.

Moves to Ducati and all he proved by going to Ducati is  Stoner is Better than Rossi. Now it does not look so good for Rossi.

Rossi had two signifcant or serious injuries and was out of action for four races so was not in a position to fight for the 2010 title. I do think he isn't going to get back to his former glory, but calling him overrated is really quite stupid: AFAIK he holds the most records in motogp/premier class racing, it's only Agostini who holds more race and championship wins.
