Biking Talk / Passed Mod 2 - Full Licence
« on: November 11, 2012, 10:41:42 AM »
Hello everyone,

I have finally passed my Mod 2 to gain my full bike licence. Now I am on the hunt for a bike. I have limited funds. Around £2500 max for a bike and am looking at a 400cc as the insurance is around £300. A 600cc is almost £1400 for me. Am only 23 with a total of 6 months on the road.

I prefer my super bike and been trying to see what is out there. So far it seems pretty limited. I was thinking something like a cbr400rr. maybe even an older one (NC23) with the Tyga RC211V Bodykit and a stubby exhaust. But even finding one is proving difficult that isn't shot to shìt.

Any help/thoughts would be great.

Kind Regards,

Adam

Non biking talk / Derbi GPR 125 4T Brake Master Cylinder
« on: July 11, 2012, 10:47:33 AM »
Hey everyone.

Hope your all doing well. I have a question in regards to replacing the master cylinder on the above bike. The current front brake is rather poor. It however cannot be swapped out as it has odd dimensions for the caliper so people have been switching out the master cylinder with the 16x18 Brembo model but they retail at £230 so unless you get lucky and find a used one or one with broken lever you are paying allot for the upgrade.

I have found some nice looking master cylinder that says it is for a monkey bike.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CNC-Brake-Clutch-Levers-Master-Cylinder-Dax-Monkey-Xr-/220619798921?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item335df6f989

However they seem to be better quality than what I currently have stock so question is will I loose power on my brakes as I am struggling to know what I need. I assume that if they are at least the same size as the current master cylinder they won't decrease the performance.

The other reason for looking at these are that they have the built in resivour that looks clean and adjustable levers with 6 click adjustment which for the price seems very good.

Any help and/or thoughts on options would be good.

Kind Regards,

Hello Everyone,

I have only been riding for about 6 weeks now on a Derbi GPR 125 4T. The bike itself is pretty good. Although the brakes lack a little bite and the tires I don't get on with. The tires are OK in the dry but have no ability in damp/wet conditions as they do not seem predictable at all to when they loss grip. I am using the bike to commute 20miles a day in all weather so need something that I can really trust.

With all that in mind what have people been doning on little 125 wheels. The standard size tires for the bike are 110/70x17 and 130/70x17 rear. I have been adivsed that I cannot not fit a wider tire to the rear as it will fowl the chain but the options for 130/70 seem to be limited.

Is it possible to use two front tires as such? For instance you can get the Bridgestone S20's in the right size but only if I choose two fronts. Coming off mtb's my front and rear tires have often been different with different tread types and compounds so don't want to make a mistake with motorbike tires.

Also I don't suppose any has tried a 140/70x17 rear as they seem more common to get hold of and give me a wider choice.

Sorry for newbie questions. Anyone want to recommend a particular set of replacements would be great too.

Kind Regards,

Adam

Hello everyone  :wave,

Not long had a bike. Still working my way towards the superbike as such (currently on little 125 :icon_boohoo:) but am wanting to learn more about bikes and get to know people in the local area that ride so I can draw from there experiance and hopefully make some great friends along the way.

Anyone is welcome to PM/Mail me or post in here if they want to know anything about me.

Kind Regards,
